Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has ordered the immediate screening of over 4,000 teachers who have just completed the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme.
The governor issued the directive on Monday at an event where learning materials were distributed to public schools across the state.
Yusuf said the screening was part of his government’s efforts to improve the education system and ensure that only qualified teachers are engaged.
“This is part of our effort to reward dedication and ensure quality education delivery,” he said.
“Only those who are qualified and capable will be absorbed into the system.”
The governor instructed the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to commence the screening exercise without delay, noting that the BESDA staff would undergo an aptitude test to determine their eligibility for permanent employment.
“This move is not just about job creation; it is about improving the quality of education in our public schools and ensuring our children are taught by qualified professionals,” Yusuf added.
According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the aptitude test will serve as a transparent yardstick for assessing the competence of the prospective teachers.
