Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Wemi Jones, has promised that the Government of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo is keen on Technical and Vocational Education in the State.
The Commissioner made this announcement on Friday at the Government Technical College, Ogboroke, Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area, Kogi State, while monitoring the ongoing NABTEB Examination.
He stated that the remodelling of the four technical colleges in the State emphasised the State Government’s commitment to Technical and Vocational Education. He stated that the State Government will equip the colleges to meet global standards, thereby addressing the needs of students and preparing them for a better future.
According to him, Technical and Vocational Education is the next big thing in Nigeria, and the state Government has keyed into the Federal Government Technical and Vocational Education Policy, assuring that the State will take care of the students in technical and Vocational Schools in the State. The Federal Government, he said, has made arrangements for every student in Technical Colleges to be given a stipend as an encouragement for people to take up technical and Vocational studies. He encouraged the students to study hard to become better individuals in the future, stating that only those with a serious mindset can achieve great things in life.
The Commissioner, who also visited Abdulazeez Attah Memorial College, Okene, and Ebira Community Secondary School during an inspection, promised the early completion of projects in the schools for the benefit of the students and staff. Speaking, the principal of Government Technical College Ogboroke, Mr. Suberu Amodu, commended the Commissioner for the visit and assured the staff of their commitment to duties. The Special Adviser accompanied the Commissioner to the Governor on Education, Hon. Abdullahi Abdulmalik, and the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Mathew Salami.
