The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has received a significant technological upgrade with the donation of a server from Koonage Infotec, a Nigerian IT company known for its web and app development expertise.
This donation, handed over on May 2, 2025, at the Senate House, is set to enhance the University’s industrial placement efforts.
The handover ceremony was attended by key figures, including Professor Johnson Agunsoye, Director of UNILAG’s Central Industrial Liaison and Placement Unit (CILPU), and Dr. Ibukun Adewale, Deputy Director of the Centre for Information Technology and Systems (CITS).
Also present were representatives from Koonage Infotec, including Dr. Femi Adeleke, the company’s Chairman, and Executive Director, Miss Adedolapo Oni.
This donation will serve to host the UNILAG-INTERN application, which was developed through a partnership between UNILAG and Koonage Infotec.
The app, which is designed to transform the University’s Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), is expected to revolutionise the internship experience for students.
The app will allow students to easily apply for verified internship positions, track their progress digitally, and provide supervisors with tools to monitor their activities remotely.
It will also offer companies an efficient platform for recruiting student interns, replacing traditional SIWES logbooks with a paperless system.
The app’s trial version is expected to launch in July 2025, pending final approval from the Industrial Trust Fund (ITF).
The collaboration between Koonage Infotec and UNILAG marks a significant step toward the University’s goal of digitising student services and enhancing industry-academic partnerships.
Following the successful implementation of the app, UNILAG plans to advocate for its adoption by other universities across the country.
