The Kwara State Government has launched a comprehensive school census to generate reliable data for policy formulation and education sector reforms. The initiative was announced on Tuesday in Ilorin during a stakeholders’ meeting with Education Management Information System (EMIS) officials from all 16 local government areas.
Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr Lawal Olohungbebe, said accurate data was crucial for effective decision-making. “We are committed to ensuring that all education policies are based on reliable data,” he said, urging school heads to cooperate with EMIS officers and avoid over-enrolment.
The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Raheem Adaramaja, said the exercise would improve the efficiency of data collection and strengthen the school system.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mrs Olanrewaju Rebecca Bake, stressed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders. At the same time, the Director of Education Planning, Mallam Adeshina Azeez, disclosed that the census would utilise a combination of analogue and digital tools.
The meeting was attended by representatives of SUBEB, TESCOM, the Bureau of Statistics, principals and teachers’ associations, and civil society groups. Officials say the exercise will provide a stronger foundation for planning the state’s education system.
