Kwara Poly Partners with Police to Fight Criminality

The management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has reaffirmed its readiness to partner with the Nigeria Police to combat all forms of criminal activities within the institution. The Rector, Dr Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, disclosed this when he led the principal officers of the institution on a courtesy visit to the Commissioner of Police, Kwara Command, CP. Adekimi Ojo.

The visit also served as an opportunity for the Polytechnic’s leadership to express gratitude for the ongoing support of the Nigeria Police in maintaining peace, particularly in light of recent challenges such as land encroachment. During the meeting, Abdul addressed issues concerning student behaviour, specifically highlighting the illegal sign-out tradition that has been banned since the 2022/2023 academic session. He disclosed that disciplinary actions would be taken against any student participating in the act within the institution, adding that those engaging in it off-campus would bear full responsibility for any consequences.

Abdul, who emphasised that hoodlums often exploited the occasion as a cover for illicit activities, solicited greater cooperation from the police in tackling land encroachment, cultism, and the illegal sign-out tradition that has become a cause for concern on campus and into the broader community. He reassured the Commissioner of Police of the institution’s commitment to fostering an atmosphere that would nurture exemplary leaders rather than enabling criminal behaviour.

Responding, CP Adekimi Ojo expressed appreciation for the visit, reiterating the Command’s commitment to supporting the institution in the fight against crime in all forms, stressing that a conducive learning environment devoid of illegal activities is essential for students to thrive. Besides, the CP advocated for a collaborative approach among tertiary institutions in the state to devise punitive measures aimed at combating crime. He emphasised the need for a comprehensive strategy to ensure the safety and security of both staff and students.
