KWASU graduates 125 women from its Centres for Women Development
Kwara State University reports that 125 women have graduated from its Centres for Women Development after completing training in clothing and cap-making.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Shaykh Luqman Jimoh disclosed this during the University’s 13th convocation press conference in Malete. The beneficiaries were trained across centres in Ilorin, Osi, Ilesha-Baruba and Malete.
He said the programme equips women with skills to produce ready-to-wear female outfits and men’s caps, targeted at driving income generation. Each participant received an industrial sewing machine, an Android phone for e-marketing and mentorship support to help them start and scale their businesses.
Jimoh noted that some graduates have already begun training others, reinforcing the University’s long-term empowerment objectives.
He announced that 8,119 students are graduating this year, including 82 first-class degree holders. A total of 7,618 completed first degrees, while 501 earned postgraduate qualifications. He added that 56 law graduates were called to the Bar this year.
Jimoh also highlighted ongoing infrastructure upgrades, including TETFund’s ₦1 billion special intervention for the library annexe, smart classroom installations across all faculties, a new 600-bed hostel delivered through a PPP, and significant research grants secured in engineering and agriculture.
He appealed for additional security posts, road expansion and more hostels to meet growing demand.
