Professor Sulaiman Sheu Adua of Kwara State University has called for the re-training of Islamic scholars to help reduce religious and communal violence in Nigeria and West Africa. He made this call while delivering the university’s 18th inaugural lecture on June 25, 2025. His lecture was titled “The Role of Contemporary Nigerian Islamic Scholars in West Africa.” Prof. Adua stated that scholars should acquire skills such as mediation and conflict resolution. He explained that these skills will help promote peace and prevent conflicts in communities. He also urged the government and NGOs to support youth development programmes. According to him, religious leaders can guide young people and stop them from being influenced by radical ideas. The professor praised Nigerian Islamic scholars abroad for their positive impact in other countries. He recommended that religious leaders, governments, and organisations in West Africa should work together to solve problems and build peace.
