The Lagos First Lady, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo‑Olu, has commended Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) and partner organisations on their efforts to promote girl‑child education through empowerment programmes and skills development.
Approximately 200 young girls who completed the first two cohorts of GESP were recognised and presented with startup toolkits, National Skills Qualification certificates, and laptops during the ceremony at YABATECH. Hosted on campus, dignitaries included the First Lady, the YABATECH Governing Council chairman, the Rector, GESP partners, and parents. GESP Coordinator, Dr Funmilayo Doherty, explained that the programme was designed to empower adolescent girls with marketable skills, entrepreneurship training, and ICT tools for enhanced employment prospects.
Dr Sanwo‑Olu commended the programme’s impact, stressing that such initiatives are vital for advancing gender equity in technical fields and equipping young women to become independent contributors to Nigeria’s future.
