The Lagos State University (LASU) has dismissed claims that admission into the institution can be bought, insisting that its process remains transparent and merit-based.
In a statement signed by Deputy Registrar Thomas-Onashile Oluwayemisi, the university described recent social media allegations of admission racketeering by staff as false and misleading.
LASU, which received 79,000 first-choice applications in the 2025 JAMB UTME—the highest among Nigerian universities—warned applicants and parents against dealing with fraudsters claiming to sell admission slots.
The institution stressed that the power to admit students rests solely with the vice-chancellor, guided by the LASU Law of 2004. The law provides for a merit-driven policy while also giving Lagos indigenes priority in a 70:30 ratio compared to applicants from other states.
The university said it would not remain silent while misinformation spreads, assuring the public that only performance and merit determine admission into LASU.
