Lagos State University (LASU) has signed a two-year agreement with the NGO, Alliances for Africa (AFA), to fight sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) on campus. The partnership was sealed on May 21, 2025, during a ceremony held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room on the Ojo campus.
Speaking on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, her deputy, Prof. Oseni Taiwo Afisi, said LASU remains committed to creating a safe environment for students and staff. He mentioned the school already has a sexual harassment policy, a special centre to prevent SGBV, and even offers a course on the topic. Mrs Blessing Duru, who signed on behalf of AFA, said LASU was chosen because of its strong stand against sexual violence. The MoU covers policy development, training, awareness campaigns, and building a culture of zero tolerance for gender-based violence. Top LASU officials and legal advisers witnessed the event.
