A delegation from the House of Representatives has visited Lagos State University (LASU) to assess measures implemented to curb certificate and admission racketeering in Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The visit, held at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room on Thursday, was led by the Chairman of the House Ad-hoc Committee on Certificate Racketeering, Hon. Abubakar Fulata. Other members included Hon. Iliyasu Aliyin, Hon. Yusuf Kure, Hon. Rabiu Yusuf, Hon. Adams Ogene and Hon. Faud Laguda.
Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Oseni Afisi, said LASU’s fully digitalised academic processes, from admission to certificate issuance, make falsification nearly impossible. She noted that certificates carry unique QR codes for instant global verification.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, added that LASU’s integration of National Identification Numbers and NYSC portal verification further ensures authenticity. Committee members commended LASU’s transparency and innovation, describing it as a model for other Nigerian universities. Fulata reassured the House’s commitment to eradicating certificate fraud nationwide. A live test of LASU’s QR verification system during the visit confirmed its reliability.
