Prof. Banji Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, newly appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH TH), Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has unveiled a strategy to transform the hospital into a technology-driven regional medical hub.

The plan was presented during the board’s inauguration, emphasising “Reimagining, Rebuilding and Repositioning” the institution.
Oyelaran-Oyeyinka, a development economist and former Senior Special Adviser to the President of the African Development Bank, said the hospital will be elevated to a modern tertiary and quaternary referral centre.

Central to the transformation is the adoption of an Electronic Medical Record system to digitise 80–100% of patient encounters, reduce outpatient waiting times, improve billing accuracy, and support AI-driven decision-making.

Short-term projects over the next 18 months include facility upgrades; staffing the College of Nursing Sciences; operationalising CT scan services; equipping the ICU; replacing dialysis machines; procuring diagnostic equipment; staff development programmes; and constructing hostels.

The board chairman stressed that improving staff welfare and morale is key and called for the prompt release of subvention arrears.
Governor Seyi Makinde charged the board to deliver results quickly, reassuring the state’s commitment to modernising healthcare and positioning LAUTECH TH as a flagship teaching hospital in Nigeria.
