The Nigerian Institute of Medical Research (NIMR) has revealed through a study that equipping HIV patients with vocational skills can boost their response to antiretroviral therapy (ART).
Dr Kaeem Osuolale, a biostatistician and Senior Research Fellow at NIMR, while presenting the study, stated that it was conducted to confirm whether HIV patients can access their treatments through skill-based empowerment. He added that poverty hinders HIV patients in Nigeria from covering expenses related to their health. Hence, the NIMR launched the Empowerment Models for Improving Adherence to Antiretroviral Drugs among Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) Patients.
