Monash University has been confirmed as one of Australia’s leading research institutions, excelling in climate and sustainability research, according to The Australian’s 2026 Research Magazine. The report highlights universities’ significant contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Monash ranks among the top five Australian universities advancing 10 SDGs, including Climate Action, Good Health, Clean Water, Gender Equality, and Life on Land. It also leads nationally in 51 research fields, spanning science, health, law, business, and education.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise), Prof Robyn Ward AM, said the recognition reflects the university’s collaborative and interdisciplinary research culture.
“Our researchers are tackling the world’s most complex challenges. This recognition demonstrates both individual excellence and the strength of Monash’s collective effort,” she noted.
The report also named 31 Monash academics among Australia’s top 250 researchers, recognising them as national leaders in their fields. Ward emphasised that these achievements show the university’s commitment to research with tangible global impact.
