Students of the Federal University, Gashua (FUGashua), Yobe State, have received a lifeline as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) disbursed over N130 million to 2,193 students.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maimuna Waziri, disclosed this at a press briefing on Wednesday ahead of the institution’s maiden combined convocation on July 12. She said 276 students got N16 million in the first batch, while 1,917 students benefited from N114 million in the second batch.
Waziri encouraged more students to take advantage of the loan scheme to alleviate the financial burden on their parents and guardians. She also revealed that over 300 lecturers had accessed research grants through TETFund.
The Vice Chancellor noted that 62 capital projects were undertaken between 2021 and 2024, with 49 completed and 12 nearing completion. She announced that honorary doctorates would be awarded to several dignitaries, including First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu, Governor Mai Mala Buni, Minister of Police Affairs Senator Ibrahim Geidam, and former Senate President Ahmed Lawan. A pre-convocation lecture will be delivered on July 11 by Prof. Isa Pantami, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, with the theme: “Beyond the Horizon: Embracing the Unknown and Unlocking Your Full Potential.”
