NALDA, Agbeyewa Partner to Expand Cassava Production

The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) signed an MoU with Agbeyewa Farms Ltd. for cassava production

The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Agbeyewa Farms Limited to boost cassava production and manage the Renewed Hope Mega Farm Estate in Irele, Ekiti State.

NALDA’s Executive Secretary, Cornelius Adebayo, stated that the partnership aims to accelerate cassava production, enhance food security, and increase Nigeria’s share of the $3.65 billion global cassava market.

Under the agreement, NALDA will clear 5,000 hectares to expand Agbeyewa’s existing 3,000-hectare plantation, with similar support planned in Delta and Kwara states.

Agbeyewa Farms’ Managing Director, Oscar Seyi Ayeleso, highlighted the impact of mechanised farming, youth empowerment, and job creation, revealing operations have already created over 2,300 jobs. He added that the farm supplies major processors such as Nestlé and SQC and aims to increase yields from 35 to 40 tonnes per hectare.

The collaboration is designed to promote large-scale farming, value addition, and industrial processing of cassava derivatives, reinforcing Nigeria’s competitiveness in global cassava trade while supporting rural development and youth employment.
