The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has met with the management of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) and leaders of the Akungba community in Ondo State to address rising insecurity and promote peace.
At the meeting, NANS Ondo Chairman Adekanye Mayomi stated that the goal was to enhance student safety and foster better relationships with the host community. He thanked the police for their role in maintaining peace in the area and urged community leaders to treat students as their children. Ondo State Police Commissioner, CP Adebowale Lawal, assured students of the police’s full support and announced the establishment of a new tactical team to combat insecurity around the university.
AAUA Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, welcomed the move and noted that most security issues were caused by non-student youths. He called for better communication and more efforts to improve student welfare and safety.
