NANS President Applauds Oko Polytechnic Rector for Transformative Leadership

The President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Olushola Oladoja, has praised Dr Chioma Irene Awuzie, Rector of Federal Polytechnic Oko, for her transformative leadership, noting its positive impact across various aspects of the institution.

Comrade Oladoja made this commendation when he led a delegation of NANS on a courtesy visit to the Rector in her office on June 25 2025. According to him, ” We embarked on this journey to tour all the campuses in the southeastern states to see how our students are doing, to see to their welfare and to thank them for electing me as their leader”

The NANS president applauded the Rector for her significant strides in the areas of infrastructure and environmental maintenance at the polytechnic. He said, “Let me say it without apology that this campus is one of the neatest and most organised campuses in this country.” He appreciated the Rector for her cordial relationship with staff unions on campus, as well as the Student Union Government, which he attributed to being responsible for the prevailing peace at the Polytechnic. “On the disturbing incident that happened recently in Oko Community, we issued a press statement calling for calm. I am also happy to hear from the school that no student lost their lives contrary to social media reports that some students died,” he stated.  He revealed that they will interface with the Commissioner of Police to sort out grey areas regarding the security of students.

In their separate speeches, the South East Coordinator of NANS, Comrade Ijeomah Obinna Charles and the Students Union Government President of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Comrade Odumegwu Chinecherem Emmanuel, applauded the Rector for her efforts to place Federal Polytechnic Oko on the global map, promising continuous support to the Rector and the entire management of the institution. They encouraged the Rector not to be distracted from her mission to bring significant development to the Institution.

Responding, the Rector, Dr Chioma Awuzie, welcomed the NANS president and his team, reiterating her commitment to the welfare of students. “Our priority is to make the students happy so that they can be good ambassadors of Federal Polytechnic Oko. Our priority is for them to be skill-oriented and research-oriented. Our priority is for them after graduation to be entrepreneurs who will be employing people”
