National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has marked two years of transformative progress, positioning itself as a key player in the country’s industrial and technological development.
Under the leadership of Executive Vice Chairman Khalil Suleiman Halilu, NASENI has moved beyond policy formulation to tangible outcomes, introducing digital systems, including Enterprise Resource Planning and project management offices, to improve efficiency and accountability.
The agency has developed and commercialised more than 44 indigenous products, ranging from solar irrigation pumps and electric vehicles to clean cookstoves, laptops, tablets, and diagnostic kits. These innovations aim to address practical challenges, particularly in rural and low-income communities.
NASENI’s major projects include a 40-hectare Solar Industrial Park in Nasarawa, CNG Reverse Engineering Centres in Abuja, and defence manufacturing partnerships with the Ministry of Defence. The agency has also launched initiatives to empower women in science and engineering, including drone training programmes and a 10,000-women cookstove empowerment scheme.
With over 30,000 jobs created and partnerships with local and international firms, NASENI is fostering a “glocal” model of innovation. By translating research into commercial products, the agency is building a national ecosystem where academia, industry, and government collaborate, signalling a potential turning point for Nigeria’s industrial and technological future.
