National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI)
The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) is leading efforts to boost Nigeria’s industrial capacity and economic growth through local production and the commercialisation of research.
Under the leadership of Executive Vice Chairman Khalil Suleiman Halilu, NASENI has partnered with local and international firms to develop products across key sectors, including energy, agriculture, biotechnology, information technology, and drone technology. Notable projects include the NASENI-TROMENT biotechnology facility in Abuja, which is set to produce rapid diagnostic test kits for diseases such as malaria, hepatitis, and HIV, and the NASENI Solar Energy Limited plant in Karshi, which produces locally made solar panels.
NASENI also collaborates with agricultural partners to revive abandoned tractors and produce coal-based fertiliser, aiming to boost food production and reduce farmers’ costs. In technology, partnerships with companies such as IMOSE Technologies have enabled the manufacture of rugged laptops, desktops, and tablets for local conditions.
The agency’s work has received commendation from the Minister of Trade, Industry and Investment, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, who visited NASENI facilities and described the initiatives as fully-made-in-Nigeria products ready for both local and continental markets under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Halilu said NASENI operates 18 development institutes nationwide, with plans to expand to 100 more, stressing that domestic manufacturing and research commercialisation are central to Nigeria’s industrialisation strategy and broader economic transformation agenda.
