Peters Adeyemi, NASU ‘s General Secretary
The Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) has raised an alarm about the government’s ‘no work, no pay’ policy, describing it as a way of intimidating workers.
Clarifying the workers’ decision to go on strike, Peters Adeyemi, NASU’s General Secretary, said that going on strike has not been a wilful act. However, rather than a step taken after several attempts to ensure their demands are met.
He explained that the government’s decision to implement the policy contravenes the principle of fair labour relations. The general secretary warned against using the policy to make legal struggles unacceptable under the law.
In addition, he stated that industrial peace can be achieved only through mutual trust, respect, and compliance with the law, not force or threats.
