The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has cleared the University of Ilorin of any wrongdoing in the handling of students’ loan deductions.
Speaking to journalists in Ilorin on Wednesday, NELFUND’s Executive Director of Operations, Mustapha Iyal, said the university was in good standing with the agency. He confirmed that all outstanding payments had been settled and that the remaining tranche would be cleared before the end of the week.
“All the backlogs of Unilorin have been cleared,” Iyal said. “This development supersedes and nullifies earlier reports listing the university among institutions involved in illegal student deductions.”
He explained that the initial report had prompted the university to submit its data, after which the backlog was verified and resolved.
Earlier, the University’s Director of Students’ Affairs, Dr Alex Akanmu, dismissed claims that the institution was engaged in unauthorised deductions from students’ loans, describing such allegations as misinformation circulated by “mischief makers.”
NELFUND said it remained committed to ensuring transparency and accountability in the implementation of the federal government’s student loan scheme.
