New Federal University Kachia Kicks Off

The Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (FUASK), Kaduna State, has officially commenced academic activities with over 1,000 pioneer students. The new institution, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, opened its doors in September 2025 in line with the president’s directive that the university should begin operations without delay.

Welcoming the first batch of students, Vice Chancellor, Prof. Barnabas Quirix, described the take-off as a milestone for Nigeria’s higher education sector. He noted that FUASK’s curriculum was carefully designed to equip graduates with entrepreneurial and innovative skills that will make them self-reliant.

According to him, 30 per cent of the curriculum, in line with National Universities Commission (NUC) guidelines, is dedicated to business enterprise development, environmental studies and social governance. “Our goal is to produce graduates who will not depend solely on government jobs but become problem-solvers and job creators,” Prof. Quirix stated. FUASK’s debut marks a new phase in applied sciences education in Nigeria.
