Development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC), a non-governmental organisation, has trained 150 teachers in the Federal Capital Territory, donated an ICT laboratory, and awarded scholarships to 20 indigent students.
The initiative is part of an N5m grant from the dRPC provided to Rising Hope Girls’ Educational Foundation to establish digital laboratories in ten communities. The project aims to curb school-related gender-based violence and bridge the digital divide in underserved areas.
Speaking at the commissioning of the ICT lab at Junior Secondary School, Chikakore, Kubwa, Dr Judith-Ann Walker, dRPC Executive Director, said the intervention was designed to empower young girls in neglected communities with digital skills.
Walker, represented by the Centre’s Director of Partnerships, Development and Communication, Hassan Karofi, explained that dRPC launched the NGO Support Initiative to cushion the effects of recent cuts in overseas funding, which had left many indigenous NGOs struggling.
“At the dRPC, the education of our children is a commitment, and we will continue to invest in it,” she said.
