Nigeria and Sweden have committed to deepening bilateral cooperation, focusing on education, youth empowerment, and grassroots development. This resolution was reached during the 2025 Nigeria-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Group Summit in Abuja, which brought together lawmakers, diplomats, and academics under the theme “Strengthening Bilateral Relationship through Education, Trade, Investment, and Political Diplomacy.”
Co-founder of the African University Incubator Ecosystem (AUIE), Dr Eileen Cheng, announced new global scholarship opportunities for Nigerian students and urged stronger international partnerships targeting youth.
Chairman of the Nigeria-Sweden Parliamentary Friendship Group, Abubakar Sarki Dahiru, stated that the summit would launch deeper collaboration across various sectors, adding that Nigeria seeks partnerships that are “equitable, impactful, and people-focused.”
Dr Grace Adayilo, former FCT Head of Civil Service, called for grassroots-focused diplomacy, while Nasarawa State University announced a postgraduate exchange with Swedish institutions. The summit also saw Minnesota State University unveil a climate and entrepreneurship research initiative spanning Nigeria, Sweden, and the US. NECO Registrar, Prof. Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi, confirmed the council is now positioned to conduct standardised exams for Nigerian students in Sweden. Other highlights included tech showcases, climate partnerships, and the launch of a fusion cookbook featuring Nigeria and Sweden.
