Nigeria will in October launch an artificial intelligence-powered lesson planning platform in what officials describe as a breakthrough for classroom teaching across the country.
The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) said the system, developed with GMIND AI, will generate simulated, locally contextualised lesson plans for teachers nationwide. Officials say the move could make Nigeria one of the first African countries to deploy AI at scale in public education.
TRCN Registrar, Dr Ronke Soyombo, said the platform would embed Nigerian realities into teaching materials. “Our children can still learn about the Victorians, but they must also learn about the Ife and Benin Kingdoms in the same breath,” she said.
The system will offer two streams: AI-generated simulations for digitally skilled teachers and prescriptive, ready-to-use plans for those with limited ICT training. It will also provide differentiated content for gifted, average and struggling learners.
Nationwide teacher training is scheduled to take place ahead of the launch, following the unveiling of the TRCN’s redesigned website in August.
GMIND AI’s Dr Deji Ajani called the initiative a “flagship for AI in African education,” saying it would transform classrooms by blending technology with cultural relevance.
