The Nigerian Army has renovated a multipurpose science laboratory at Government Day Secondary School, Jaji, Kaduna State, as part of its ongoing civil-military cooperation efforts aimed at boosting education and community development in host communities.
The project, which includes the provision of laboratory equipment, consumables, a generator, and borehole repairs, was commissioned as part of activities marking the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL). Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede—represented by the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Major General Kelvin Aligbe—said the Army’s support for education reflects its broader commitment to nation-building beyond its core security mandate. “This project is a demonstration of the Nigerian Army’s belief in the transformative power of education and its critical role in shaping the future of our country,” Oluyede said.
He noted that the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative, under which the intervention falls, is designed to improve living conditions and educational standards in communities where the Army operates. Oluyede urged students, teachers, and administrators to maintain the newly upgraded facilities, stressing that their effective use would enhance science learning and foster innovation among young people.
He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. He expressed gratitude to the people of Jaji and Kaduna State for their continued cooperation with the military. “The Nigerian Army will continue to implement quick-impact projects that respond to the pressing needs of our host communities,” he said, calling for sustained collaboration between the public and security forces. The intervention highlights the military’s growing role in developmental efforts, particularly in underserved or conflict-affected areas, where educational infrastructure is often lacking.
