In Tianjin, China, a groundbreaking experiment has seen Nigerian researcher Osuagwu Obinna Ikechukwu, from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, successfully manipulate a robotic “sixth finger” using only his thoughts.
This feat was achieved through a non-invasive brain-computer interface (BCI) developed by the Brain-Computer Interaction and Human-Machine Integration team at Tianjin University.
The technology interprets brain signals to control external devices, offering promising applications in rehabilitation and human-machine interaction.
Obinna’s experience was part of a week-long programme hosted by Science and Technology Daily, aimed at immersing international researchers in China’s innovation landscape.
Participants explored various technological advancements, including ship-handling simulators at Tianjin University’s School of Marine Science and Technology, as well as traditional architectural techniques at the Institute of Architectural History and Heritage Conservation.
