Oluwadamilare Dauda, a final-year PhD student at Osun State University, has won the prestigious Young Scientist Award from the National Veterinary School of Toulouse, France.
The award was given in recognition of Dauda’s research on blackfly transmission of river blindness (onchocerciasis) in Southwest Nigeria. His work supports efforts to control the disease in affected communities. The French Embassy in Nigeria announced the award on social media, praising Dauda as a rising scientist in entomology, the study of insects. The embassy also helped fast-track his visa so he could attend a summer course in Toulouse, where he learned more about disease-carrying insects alongside top researchers. Dauda expressed his gratitude to the French Embassy and his university for the support, saying it is a big win for Nigerian academic excellence.
