Some Nigerians have reacted to the newly revised national curriculum for primary, junior and senior secondary schools, unveiled by the Federal Ministry of Education.
The ministry announced on Sunday that the new framework will take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session, describing it as a “lighter load, stronger minds” approach intended to ease content overload while equipping pupils with modern skills.
In a post on its official social media platforms, the ministry stated that the curriculum overhaul was part of efforts to enhance learning outcomes across basic and secondary education.
However, the announcement has sparked fresh debate, with some Nigerians calling for further review. Comments on the ministry’s post reflected concerns about implementation, the relevance of some subjects, and the preparedness of teachers to handle new content.
The revised framework includes the introduction of trade and technology-based subjects at junior levels and digital-focused disciplines such as programming, artificial intelligence, and data science at senior levels.
Officials have said the changes are aimed at aligning the school system with global standards while preparing Nigerian students for the future workplace.
