NiMet Partners with Adamawa University to Boost Climate Research

-NiMet-and-Adamawa-State-University-Forge-Strategic-Climate-Partnership

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has partnered with Adamawa State University to strengthen climate research and enhance the delivery of timely weather warnings.

The pact, sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), focuses on improving real-time weather alerts and seasonal forecasts tailored to farmers and communities in Adamawa State.

It also supports specialised training programmes for students and practitioners, as well as joint publications on region-specific climate challenges.

NiMet’s Director-General, Prof. Charles Anosike, stressed the importance of academic collaboration for effective early-warning dissemination. He noted that “the partnership aligns with the UN’s ‘Early Warning for All 2027’ initiative, which seeks to improve food security, protect lives and property, and build resilience to extreme weather events.”

Among the key areas are climate data analysis, drought and flood monitoring, and integrating climate science into community disaster preparedness.
