The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has pledged to mobilise Nigerians in support of the federal government’s new tax reforms, set to take effect in January 2026. Director-General Malam Lanre Issa-Onilu announced during a courtesy visit by the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, led by Mr Taiwo Oyedele, in Abuja.

Issa-Onilu highlighted the challenges posed by misinformation and stressed the importance of sensitising citizens on the benefits of the new tax laws, including the elimination of double taxation.

He emphasised NOA’s nationwide reach, its partnerships with over 200 radio and 36 television stations broadcasting in 72 local languages, and the use of modern technology, including its AI platform, CLHEEAN, to disseminate authentic information.

Oyedele noted that misinformation, especially at the grassroots, has created misunderstanding about the reforms. He expressed confidence that public awareness campaigns will help citizens understand the law’s benefits, thereby ensuring broad acceptance.

The agencies agreed to form a joint committee to coordinate outreach, aiming to accurately communicate the reforms and address public concerns. The meeting also featured presentations of the new tax laws to NOA and a National Value Charter plaque to the Tax Reforms Committee chairman.
