Prof. Sadiq Yusuf, Vice Chancellor, Newgate University Minna
Newgate University Minna will graduate 207 students at its maiden convocation next Wednesday, December 3, with 14 earning first-class honours. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sadiq Yusuf disclosed this during a briefing for reporters in Minna.
He said 81 students earned second-class upper division, 88 second-class lower, and 24 third-class degrees. The graduating cohort comprises 102 females and 105 males.
Yusuf confirmed that two lecturers were dismissed for leaking examination papers, stressing that the institution will enforce strict academic integrity. He added that some students were also expelled for poor performance and indiscipline to protect the university’s academic standards.
The convocation lecture will be delivered by Prof. Maxwell Gidado (SAN), former Dean of Law at Nasarawa State University, on the theme “Academic Freedom and University Governance: A Legal Perspective.”
Established with 350 students and now approaching 2,000, the university currently runs 10 fully accredited programmes. Professional accreditations are also in place for Nursing and Medical Laboratory Science, with the Nursing programme recording a 79% pass rate in the latest council examinations.
