Prof. Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu, NUC Executive Secretary
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved the establishment of Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (BUSAST) in Ihugh, Vandeikya LGA.
The decision follows the submission of the university’s Academic Brief, Physical Master Plan, and University Law by the state government.
Speaking during the presentation of the recognition letter, NUC Executive Secretary Prof Abdullahi Yusufu Ribadu said BUSAST would be Benue’s second state-owned university and is expected to play a key role in advancing agricultural development and education in Nigeria. He urged the institution to maintain high standards of academic excellence, quality assurance, and character development.
Deputy Governor Barr. Samuel Ode, representing Governor Rev Fr. Hyacinth Alia, described the approval as historic, highlighting the university’s potential to meet modern agricultural and educational needs. He assured that the state would provide the necessary infrastructure and resources to ensure the university achieves its mandate.
BUSAST joins 67 other state universities, bringing Nigeria’s total number of universities to 299. NUC will conduct periodic evaluations to verify that facilities, human resources and academic programmes align with regulatory requirements.
