The National Universities Commission (NUC) has re-accredited all 25 undergraduate programmes offered by Kwara State University (KWASU).
This was confirmed by Dr Saeedat Aliyu, the Acting Director of University Relations in Ilorin. She said the programmes were assessed during the October–November 2024 round of academic programme accreditation.
According to her, the accreditation results were conveyed to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jimoh Shaykh-Luqman, in a letter dated April 30 and signed by the NUC’s Acting Director of Accreditation, Mr Abraham Chundusu.
Dr Aliyu disclosed that 21 of the programmes were granted full accreditation, while four others received interim accreditation.
Programmes awarded full accreditation include Taxation, Agriculture, Aquaculture and Fisheries Management, and Food Engineering. Others on the list include Biochemistry, Environmental Management and Toxicology, Physics, Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution, Special Education, French Education, Christian Religious Studies Education, Islamic Studies Education, Arabic Education, Computer Science Education, and Business Education.
Also fully accredited are Early Childhood Education, Educational Management, Agriculture Education, Biology Education, Physics Education, and Chemistry Education.
Meanwhile, the programmes in French, Mathematics Education, English Education, and Yoruba Education received interim accreditation.
She explained that full accreditation is valid for five years, while interim accreditation lasts for two years, after which affected programmes would be re-evaluated by the NUC.
Reacting to the development, Professor Shaykh-Luqman commended the staff for their efforts in successfully presenting the programmes for re-accreditation.
He reiterated the university’s commitment to academic excellence, research, and community development and encouraged staff to remain focused on maintaining high standards.
