NYSC Revamps Entrepreneurship Training

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) is overhauling its Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, aiming to equip corps members with skills for the modern workplace.

Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, Director-General of NYSC, announced the plans at the second SAED stakeholders’ summit in Abuja, themed ‘Empowering a Generation: Building Competence for the Future Workplace and Enterprise Through Impactful Partnerships’.

The revamped curriculum will focus on digital and tech skills, including artificial intelligence and mobile app development. Corps members will also be integrated into the Federal Government’s 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) programme and global remote work initiatives such as Outsource to Nigeria and NYSC Jobs.ng.

Since 2012, over 3.18 million Corps Members have completed entrepreneurship and workplace readiness training, and more than 30,000 businesses have been formally registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission. Nafiu highlighted that these enterprises are creating jobs and contributing to Nigeria’s GDP.

The DG also welcomed the ₦2 billion MSME loan fund for Corps Entrepreneurs, launched in partnership with the Bank of Industry, describing it as a milestone in youth empowerment.

“Equipping young people is not just a programme, it is a national assignment,” he said, urging stakeholders to continue fostering creativity, competence, and digital fluency among Corps Members.
