A final-year student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, has claimed his name was deliberately removed from the 2025 graduation list as punishment for taking part in a student protest against former FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, during his campus visit on 5 June 2025.
Joshua Temitope Oladepo told SaharaReporters that he discovered the exclusion while attempting to access the University’s convocation portal on Thursday. “I was able to pay my convocation fee of N40,000 and had completed all necessary clearance. Now, I am told my name is not on the list,” he said.
Screenshots from the portal confirm the message informing him that his name was missing and advising him to contact the Examinations and Records Office. Oladepo also possesses proof of payment and an official Notification of Results dated 3 October 2025, confirming he completed his Political Science programme with a Second Class Upper Division.
Despite these documents, Oladepo insists the move is retaliatory, linked to his participation in protests during Wike’s visit, which led to multiple student arrests. The University has not publicly commented on his allegations.
The situation raises concerns over student rights and the handling of political protests within Nigerian tertiary institutions.
