Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced that Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic has regained accreditation for 33 courses, including digital certification, after years of setbacks.
Speaking during his monthly media chat on Thursday, Otti praised the Rector, Christopher Kalu Okoro, for leading reforms that restored the institution’s credibility. He said the progress reflected “hard work and dedication” and marked a turning point for technical and vocational education in the state.
The polytechnic has introduced online certification to facilitate easier verification of academic records, alongside upgrades in infrastructure and student-focused programmes. New facilities, including a sports complex, gym, and creative studio, have been completed, with a ₦2 billion TETFund grant supporting further projects.
Otti said the institution’s renewed focus on digitalisation and entrepreneurship would empower graduates to become “wealth creators rather than job seekers.”
The government has also established an Export Growth Lab at the school, intended to connect students and researchers with global markets and innovation networks.
Officials say the transformation positions the Aba-based polytechnic as a hub for research, technology and enterprise development, while strengthening confidence in Abia’s higher education sector.
