The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has warned Igbo youths to reject the growing allure of illicit wealth and focus instead on education and legitimate business ventures. The group issued the warning in response to the performance of Master Okeke Chinedu Christian, an Anambra-born student who scored 375 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), the highest in the country.
In a statement released Thursday in Enugu, Ohanaeze President General, Senator Azuta Mbata, described Okeke’s result as a model of discipline and focus, contrasting it with what he called the dangerous rise in shortcuts to wealth. “Our youths must reject the allure of get-rich-quick schemes. It is time to return to the values of hard work, honesty, and resilience. These are what built Igboland,” Mbata said.
The statement, signed by the group’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr Ezechi Chukwu, said education and entrepreneurship remain the pillars of sustainable progress for the Igbo nation. Ohanaeze expressed concern that many young people are abandoning traditional Igbo values in pursuit of fast and unethical money-making paths, warning that such trends threaten the region’s future.
