Sons and daughters of Okun land are said to be playing a vital role in building Kogi State University, Kabba. This is coming on the heels of a recent commitment by the Kogi State government to the success of the new university.
The donations, which include both cash and property gifts, are helping the young institution grow rapidly and establish itself as a regional hub for education.
Among the notable supporters is Emeritus Professor Olatunji Dare, who recently donated property to the university in what has been described as a landmark endowment. Similarly, an Okun-born medical doctor, Dr. John Adegboye, is funding the construction of a 1,300-capacity auditorium, now underway on campus.
Additionally, traditional rulers, community leaders, business executives, and politicians have been supporting the university through advocacy and material assistance. The efforts of these men and women and traditional leaders, combined with earlier public hearings and stakeholder engagements, show the deep commitment of the Okun people to realising their decades-long dream of a homegrown university. Observers say such unity is laying the foundation for the school’s long-term success.
