Olatinwo Honoured for Excellence in Obstetrics Administration

Prof AbdulWaheed Olatinwo, former CMD of UITH, honoured by SOGON

Former Chief Medical Director of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital (UITH), Professor AbdulWaheed Olatinwo, was conferred with the “Excellence in Administration” award by the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) during its Annual Scientific Conference in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Olatinwo, from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Ilorin, praised SOGON’s commitment to advancing women’s health and described the practice of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Nigeria as among the best globally. He attributed the award to collective efforts with colleagues in sustaining high standards of care.

Speaking on women’s welfare, Olatinwo condemned the inhuman treatment of pregnant women and urged the government to enforce stringent laws against such abuse. He also called for prompt prosecution of rape cases, citing South Africa’s legal reforms as a model.

The award, he said, would motivate him to further excellence in clinical practice, research, and governance. Olatinwo expressed gratitude to the University of Ilorin and UITH management for providing a conducive environment for his growth as a lecturer and surgeon.

A native of Offa, Kwara State, Olatinwo earned his MBBS from the University of Maiduguri and the Fellowship of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS) in 1995, and served as UITH CMD from 2010 to 2018.
