Olubadan, Sunmonu, others bag doctorate at Lead City varsity
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and veteran labour leader Hassan Sunmonu were among the distinguished personalities honoured with honorary doctorates at Lead City University’s 18th convocation ceremony in Ibadan.
Oba Ladoja received a Doctor of Science in Public Administration, while Sunmonu was awarded a Doctor of Public Administration for his decades of service to organised labour. Business leaders Olalekan Bello and Olakunle Williams also received honorary Doctor of Business Administration degrees.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kabiru Adeyemo announced that 3,379 students graduated, including 290 first-class graduates, noting that the honours recognise exceptional leadership and societal impact.
He added that the convocation coincided with the university’s 20th anniversary, a milestone reflecting two decades of academic growth and innovation.
Adeyemo highlighted that over ₦200 million has been invested in staff development to strengthen teaching quality and global competitiveness. He urged graduates to uphold integrity, embrace digital skills and focus on entrepreneurship.
Chancellor Prof. Gabriel Ogunmola thanked families for their support, while honoree Olalekan Bello, speaking on behalf of recipients, praised the university and encouraged graduates to adopt emerging technologies to stay competitive.
