The Osun State Government has opened entries for its 2025 Independence Day Essay Competition, inviting students from secondary schools and tertiary institutions to take part.
The initiative, announced on Tuesday, aims to mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence anniversary while encouraging young people to reflect on the country’s past and future.
Two themes have been set for the contest. University and college students are expected to write on “Nigeria @ 65: Reflecting on the Past, Present, and Shaping the Future.” In contrast, secondary school students will address “Nigeria @ 65: Discuss the Educational System in the Past, Present, and the Future.”
Organisers said the competition is open only to students of Osun origin, regardless of whether they are studying within or outside the state. Applicants must provide documentation to prove eligibility. The government stated that the essays are intended to stimulate critical thinking about Nigeria’s development and foster intellectual engagement among the youth.
