Over 300 Quranic Students Compete in Bauchi for Recitation Championship

Over 300 Quranic students from six northern states are participating in the second edition of the Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi Foundation Qur’anic Recitation Competition in Bauchi State.

The competition, which began on Sunday, May 4, 2025, will run until May 10, bringing together students from Bauchi, Gombe, Kano, Katsina, Niger, and Kaduna states.

Malam Abdullahi Ismail, the Education Secretary of the Foundation, explained that the event is designed to promote the correct recitation of the Qur’an as it was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W).

He added that it is also aimed at strengthening the commitment and morale of the students, fostering better Islamic education, and elevating Qur’anic literacy across Nigeria and neighbouring countries.

The competition includes additional components such as Fiqh, Tauhid, and Sira, all meant to deepen students’ understanding of Islam.

Sheikh Tijjani Dahiru, a prominent Islamic scholar, urged participants to view the Qur’an as a lifelong guide. Dr. Mujitapha Abdulkadir called on the government and stakeholders to support the initiative by establishing permanent centres for future competitions, which would help further enhance the program’s impact on the youth and their education.
