The Vice-Chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University, Lagos, Prof Enase Okonedo, has urged Nigerian youths to leverage technology for purposeful leadership and social impact rather than mere convenience.
Okonedo gave the charge while delivering a keynote address at the 2025 Dacurate Secondary School Debate Competition, held in Lagos, with the theme “Leadership and Technology.”
She said the world needs leaders who combine innovation with moral integrity, stressing that technology should be used to solve problems, not amplify negative influence. “Leadership today is not about titles but about integrity. Technology gives you reach, but values give you direction,” she said.
Okonedo encouraged students to acquire digital skills such as coding and data analysis, adding that Nigeria’s next generation of innovators would emerge from those who apply technology to real-life challenges.
The event convener, Mr Mateen Taomu, said the competition promotes critical thinking and ethical leadership among youths. Redeemer’s International Secondary School won the top prize of ₦500,000, followed by Corona Day Secondary School and Grace High School.
