Graduates of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, have renewed calls on the Nigerian government to abolish the long-standing discrimination between Higher National Diploma (HND) and university degree holders.
In a statement, the Publicity Secretary of the alumni association, Busayo Adeyemi, said the divide has denied thousands of polytechnic graduates fair opportunities for career growth and public service placements.
He argued that in today’s world, skills, innovation, and problem-solving matter more than certificates, stressing that Nigeria cannot achieve actual industrial development while sidelining technically trained professionals.
Adeyemi noted that Ado-Ekiti Polytechnic has consistently produced graduates excelling in engineering, science, business, and technology. He added that Nigerian HND holders thrive abroad where their qualifications face no discrimination, proving the bias at home is rooted in outdated policies.
The alumni urged lawmakers to pass legislation that gives HND graduates equal recognition with their university counterparts.
