Postdoctoral Position in Computational Galaxy Evolution – Max Planck Institute


The Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (Garching, Germany) invites applications for a three-year postdoctoral position in Computational Galaxy Evolution (Job Code: MPA 08/2025) under Dr Natalia Lahén.


The position is part of the ERC-funded ILMATAR project, focusing on the formation of globular clusters and early galaxies through high-resolution hydrodynamical simulations. The postdoc will develop numerical techniques for modelling stellar evolution, star clusters, and galaxy formation.


Applicants must hold a PhD in astrophysics, physics, computer science, or related fields by the start of the appointment. The position offers access to extensive computational resources, including the Max Planck Computing and Data Facility and the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre. The starting date is September 2026 (negotiable).
