Prof. Adamu Ahmed Assumes Office as ABU’s 13th Vice-Chancellor

Ahmadu Bello University Appoints Professor Adamu Ahmed as New Vice-Chancellor

Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has officially welcomed Professor Adamu Ahmed as its 13th Vice-Chancellor, following a formal handover ceremony held on April 30, 2025, at the university’s Senate Chambers.

 His appointment, approved by the university’s Governing Council during its 209th Special Meeting on February 5, 2025, took effect on May 1, 2025, marking the end of Professor Kabiru Bala’s five-year tenure. 

A distinguished alumnus of ABU, Professor Ahmed earned his BSc in Geography in 1985, MSc in Urban and Regional Planning in 1990, and PhD in the same field in 2000. 

He joined the university’s Department of Urban and Regional Planning in 1991 and rose to the rank of professor in 2012.

 His administrative experience includes being Director of the Directorate of University Advancement and Head of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning. 

Beyond academia, Professor Ahmed has held significant positions, such as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the Federal University of Education, Kano, and Commissioner for Lands and Survey in Bauchi State. 

In his inaugural address, Professor Ahmed expressed gratitude to the university community and pledged to uphold ABU’s legacy of academic excellence. 

He emphasised the importance of collaborative research and innovation, aiming to align the university’s efforts with global standards.  The ceremony was attended by members of the university’s management, academic and non-academic staff, representatives from the Zazzau Emirate Council, alumni, and other stakeholders, reflecting the institution’s commitment to a seamless leadership transition.
