The Medical Director of Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Kaduna, Prof Aishatu Armaya’u, has warned that the human brain is constantly under attack from stress, sleeplessness, and the pressures of modern life. She made this statement during the Brain Awareness Week Public Lecture, held on July 1, 2025, at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
The event, themed ‘Brain on Burnout’, was organised by the Neuroscience Society of Nigeria, ABU Chapter. Prof Armaya’u noted that the fast pace of urban life, pressure from school and work, and poor sleeping habits are harming brain health. She described the lecture as a call to action, urging everyone to prioritise their mental well-being as they do their physical health. Other doctors also spoke on how stress, sleep, and digital addiction affect the brain. Awards were presented to individuals promoting healthy living. ABU’s Vice-Chancellor praised the event’s focus on brain health and public education.
