Community Secondary School, Okuru-Ama, has emerged winner of the 2025 Book Reading and Open Day competition organised by TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited in Port Harcourt.
The annual contest, which brought together students from over 10 senior secondary schools across Rivers State, aims to promote reading culture and literary appreciation among young people.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Managing Director of TotalEnergies Joint Venture Asset, Olivier Cassassoles, said the company’s goal was to nurture creativity, empathy and critical thinking through reading.
He noted that for more than six decades, the company had supported education and youth development through scholarships, mentorship and academic collaborations. “Since 2010, more than 110 Nigerian university lecturers have benefited from professional development through our partnership with MIT under the Empowering the Teachers Fellowship,” he said.
General Manager, Country Services, Adesua Adewole, urged students to embrace reading as a key to a brighter future. At the same time, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Education, Dr Azibaolalare Uzoma-Wogu, praised TotalEnergies for its sustained investment in education.
The event featured readings from The Potter’s Wheel by Nigerian author Chukwuemeka Ike, with participants encouraged to reflect on its themes of discipline and personal growth.
